Three Types of Handcuffs that Cops around the World Use

0

Handcuffs are mostly used for detaining a person, but the amount of restraint they exercise is down to their type.

Handcuffs are essential tools for law keeping officers around the world. They vary in terms of material, purpose and price which makes the application of each uniquely different. While handcuffs have also come to be used for recreational purposes, only law keeping officers are permitted to otherwise use it for law enforcement needs.

It is therefore important to understand the types of handcuffs out there and their applications. Three types of handcuffs that are available in the market are:

Chain handcuffs–In chained handcuffs, the cuffs are connected by a short chain. While the chain gives the handcuffs a touch of solidarity they also provide the much needed room for twisting and turning your handcuffs. The range of motion thus provided, accounts for the comfort while putting these cuffs on an individual.
Hinged handcuffs – Hinged handcuffs as the name suggests are built around a central hinge. While the presence of the hinge makes it difficult or nearly impossible for the cuffed person to manoeuvre, the relatively low space for movement makes them difficult to handle. The handcuffs can move in two directions only, but are significantly stronger than chained handcuffs.

Rigid Solid bar handcuffs – Rigid solid bar handcuffs provide the greatest stability and solidarity in the range of handcuffs. However, the solidarity comes at the expense of being unable to move. The cuffs remained locked in a sturdy position and therefore the inflexibility is both the good and bad.
Apart from choosing the right handcuffs, you also need a suitable carrier for them. Something like the 911 Gear double handcuff case with key holder, is essential for any law keeping officer.
