Being a Good Paramedic

Paramedics have to remain alert 24 hours, and deal with different emergencies throughout the day that losing your temperament and getting frustrated becomes natural. But, if you’re passionate about your work aspire to be a good paramedic, here’s what you can do.

Paramedics are supposed to be highly skilled, active and responsible professionals. If and when performing at their best, they can save lots of lives every day!

Here’re the traits that can help you become a good paramedic:

1. Will to Help People
A good paramedic is the one, who sincerely wants to help people out. That means you should be ready to treat your patients as you would like to be cared for in a bad-health situation. Since you are at your customers’ service, you should not give them a chance to complain.
2. Sense of Responsibility
When under treatment, every patient is fully dependent on the care and attention given by the paramedics. So, it is important that you have a sense of responsibility towards what you can and should do to save lives. You should personally evaluate the condition of patients, which includes measuring the pulse, evaluating GCS, checking blood pressure, and monitoring ECG.

3. Expertise and Maturity
No matter how severe a case, it is your duty to stay calm and composed. If you are stable, you’ll be able to motivate both the patient and the caretakers. Let them get an impression that you’ve seen and handled countless such cases before.

4. Preparation
When your shift begins, make sure all your ambulances are ready and well-equipped. You might have to transport a patient at a very short notice. Develop a habit of getting ready on time.

5. Professionalism
Your identification as a professional is one of the most important aspects of your job.  Make sure you are always wearing our ID when on duty.
Since your ID should be clearly noticeable to all, consider getting a quality product like Peace Officer IDBar, the new paramedic ID bar from 911Gear that comes with a reflective background. 1.5 cm high embroidered letters on a 12 cm x 3cm patch can be read from distance. You can sew the patch onto your uniform.
