Handcuffs come in different
styles and makes today, even when they are meant to meet the same purpose. Certain
newly introduced features have definitely increased the level of security when
it comes to controlling resisting criminals. Keep on reading for different
types of handcuffs!
Use of handcuffs takes us back to so many years; law enforcement organizations and institutions have been using them to restrain criminals for a long, long time now. With time, however, their design and technique have changed a great deal. Most changes that have been made are meant to increase the level of safety and security!
Following are different
types of handcuffs based on make and design:
1. Chain Handcuffs
This is the most commonly
used and seen type of handcuffs. They have a short chain connecting the two
cuffs and are flexible. The design is meant to fit the criminals/suspects of
all hand sizes.
2. Hinged Handcuffs
These types of handcuffs
have a hinge that doesn’t have a chain and crooks from the middle. Such
handcuffs are rigid and specially designed to achieve more restraining. They
hold the wrists of the criminal/suspect closer so that the movement is limited.
These handcuffs are smaller compared to traditional handcuffs.
3. Rigid Handcuffs
These are a mix of chained
and hinged handcuffs; the design includes a metal bar joining the two cuffs.
Though the bar makes these handcuffs more flexible than hinged handcuffs, they
are highly restraining. Most importantly, this type of handcuffs allows the law
enforcement personnel to apply restraining techniques even when only one hand
is cuffed. This makes it way easier to deal with criminal/suspects that are
resisting in nature.
