A Guide to Tactical Eyewear

There were times when Ray-Ban Aviators were popular protective eyewear in the military. But the scenario has completely changed now. Technology has come up with better equipment's that offer higher security and protection for this high-risk job.

Like other body parts, eyes also need to be secured against the unexpected danger. Choosing the right eyewear can lessen the intensity of the danger to the eye.

Dust and sand become the main causes of eye problems especially when working or driving a vehicle in arid environments. At such places the need for a high-quality eye cover or goggles rises, else it won’t be possible to work for long in such an environment with half-blind eyes.

Although Standard off-road or ski goggles can shield you from dust but they can’t protect you from the danger of modern operations.

Earlier ballistic eyewear was not much needed as the major threat was due to artillery or direct fire and they cannot offer protection from these types of threats.

But with the plethora of terrorist bombs the need for better safety equipment's have increased manifold. Therefore, Modern ballistic eyewear is must before getting into the field to ensure the safety of eyes.

How to Decide Between Glasses or Goggles?

Before you pick the tactical eyewear, you need to decide whether glasses or goggles will suit you best.

·     A good set of ballistic glasses is must for everyone to have because they offer great protection and their compacted nature makes them easy to carry along even when not in use. The wraparound style is the best to choose as it offers an all-round protection. And when you have large designs to choose from, you can pick up a smart piece which offers exceptional safety as well.

·     Goggles are another option to choose specially if you are to drive in open vehicles in those tough conditions. The latest models have some excellent features that are comfortable to wear and protect your eyes and face.

Necessary Features of a Ballistic Eyewear

Beyond the style and the brand there are few things you cannot ignore while buying the tactical eyewear.

Impact Resistance

There are many industry standards for impact resistance. If you check ANSI Z87.1 it has a minimum high-velocity impact certification.
But the ideal standard and the military specification for impact resistance is MIL PRF-31013. Goggles also have MIL-DTL-43511D certification. If you choose the lens with the above specification, then they can offer excellent shelter against IED fragmentation.

Color of the Lens

Clear lenses work best in temperate climates but for working in sunlight a pair of dark lenses is a better option to choose. Many ballistic eyewears even come with interchangeable lenses.

Since, safety in the war field is the main priority therefore; you should choose the right ballistic eyewear as per the standards.
